When something significant changes in your life, it can feel like the floor is falling from under you. Luckily, it won't be, but this sensation can feel frightening. So today I will explain a little about what is normal in these circumstances, why change is sometimes so difficult, and offer some strategies to help you cope and get your footing back.
Change can arrive in many ways, sometimes as a shock, a negative surprise, an unwanted tragedy, or an accident. Then there is also planned change, or positive shifts in your life. Even those good things that you wanted can get you in a tiz at first.
If you aren't good with change then it could be a sign that you can feel unsafe easily. Safety is at the root of us feeling psychologically happy. So the first thing you need to do is to help reassure yourself that you are safe despite change. Of course this will be easier if it's a wanted shift in your life and is moving you toward more good.
If you have experienced something out of your control, it will take you time to adjust.
